What birds do you know and love in the garden? What birds have you seen?  

This year we have had song sparrows nesting in shrubs and arbors. One nest may have been lost, but another entire family has been seen. The robins are quite active this year, and you can hear their morning songs, evening songs and perhaps even alarm calls.  Catbirds nest in the garden. A juvenile hatched last year has been seen again this season. 

Cardinals and yellow throated warblers are also present.  Crows sometimes come in a big flock and hang out at the baseball field and then fly back over to the cottonwood tree.  The smaller birds love a simple birdbath that is kept very clean and they will definitely feed on berries to survive the nesting season and have enough to feed their young.  

Gardeners have also seen hummingbirds and one day during  this season, a red tail hawk was sighted. Watch and listen for these welcome garden residents and visitors.  Go to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology to identify birds, hear their calls, and learn about their habits.
